For ABC, one line-up has viewers tuning in every week. That is their comedy Wednesday’s shows like The Middle , Modern Family and Cougar Town. Since Cougar Town is taking time off, they have Mr. Sunshine as their replacement, a half-hour comedy starring Matthew Perry as Ben Donovan. Ben is the operations manager of the San Diego Sunshine Center. When he turns forty, he realizes he never really cared about anyone but himself. He is also dealing with the demands of his job and his unpredictable boss Crystal played by The West Wing’s Allison Janey. He is assisted by his friend’s Alice and Alonzo, played by James Lesure of NBC’s Las Vegas.
Just in the first episode, he has to get a job for Crystal’s son Roman who appears out of nowhere while getting the arena ready for the circus. I must say that the pilot was not as funny as I thought it was going to be. There were some funny parts, but otherwise it felt rushed. As we all know it takes time to gain an audience. I see a lot of room for improvement here, and it’s a really good concept. I give Mr. Sunshine two and a half out of four stars. What do you think of Matthew Perry’s return to television? Does ABC have another great comedy here? Is Mr. Sunshine as funny as the others? Send us an e-mail and let your voice be heard. All-new episodes air Wednesdays at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.
