The year of 2010 has not been good for Hollywood. Most of the movies that have come out were not a big success. However, this fall there is one film that has lived up to the hype. It’s called Unstoppable starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. It is directed by Tony Scott, who gave us Man on Fire, Déjà Vu, and The Taking of Pelham 123.
Needless to say, this is not the first time Denzel and Scott have worked together. This film was inspired by true events, and it takes place in Pennsylvania. Unstoppable is about an unmanned train carrying cars filled with deadly chemicals and other dangerous cargo heading towards a heavily populated area. The train also has no air brakes, so two railway engineers try to come up with a plan to stop it while its increasing in speed . If the train gets derailed in a place filled with people, it could kill them in a matter of hours. Washington plays Frank Barnes and Pine plays Wil Colson, the new engineer. He was previously in the 2009 film Star Trek as the new Captain Kirk, so he needed a big role to step away from his Star Trek fame.
This was the most intense movie I have seen in my life so far. The casting was right on the money; Denzel has never lost his touch and Pine proved himself to be one of the best young actors out there today. I can’t forget Rosario Dawson and Kevin Dunn; they did a great job as well, playing the people who run the railway company.
At the end of the day I give this film 10 out of a possible 10. It is truly one of the best films of the year. It grabs hold of you and never lets go. Not only does it live up to its name, but it will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. We have seen runaway cars, boats, and buses, but we have never seen something like this before, done in such a way with great action sequences. I highly recommend that you see this movie. The year is not over yet, so I hope we end it with more great films like this. So, what do you think of Unstoppable? Did Tony Scott deliver on this one?
