With enough legal dramas on television, you might ask yourself why we even need another one. This time it comes from CBS, and as you know CBS is the most successful network on television today. From executive producer Carol Mendelsohn, who helped make CSI, comes a new legal drama called TheDefenders. It stars Jim Belushi and Jerry O’ Connell as Nick Moreli and Pete Kaczmarek, who are two Las Vegas defense attorneys who do whatever it takes to help their clients, and they are not afraid to bend the rules as they go along.
They also have interesting personal lives, with Nick and his wife separated. He can’t help but by keeping tabs on her by having a private investigator follow her around at times. As for Pete, he’s just a free-wheeling playboy who has good luck with the ladies. In the pilot, they are joined by their new associate Lisa Tyler played by Jurnee Smollett who was previously on NBC’s Friday Night Lights.
I have to say that I have not seen a show that showcases Vegas like this since NBC’s Las Vegas. I absolutely love this show already. It’s got everything you want in a show: great chemistry with the cast, good storylines, and great comedy to boot. Belushi and O’ Connell are very funny together. I give The Defenders four out of four stars and I strongly advise you to watch this show. It is pure entertainment and escapism at the same time.
The network has done it again. Boy, there’s a lot of shows to watch on Wednesday nights, which makes it even tougher to choose which one is better than the other, but I will leave that decision up to you. What do you think of The Defenders? Does the cast have any chemistry? Would you watch this legal drama every week? Send us an e-mail and let your voice be heard. Catch all-new episodes of The Defenders Wednesdays at 10/9c only on CBS.
