NBC has got quite the lineup this fall. From Creator J.J. Abrams who gave us LOST and Alias, comes his next television drama, Undercovers. It’s about a married couple named Steven and Samantha Boom who used to be spies, but have now been retired for five years. They own a successful catering business, but their marriage is not as adventurous as it once was. So, one day a veteran CIA agent tells them the agency needs their help to find a missing spy named Leo Nash. Nash is an old friend, so eventually they agree to team up and try to save their friend. They travel from Madrid, to Paris, to Moscow and eventually save Nash from being killed by a Russian arms dealer. At the end of the pilot, the Blooms are offered their jobs back so they can take on missions together and they accept not knowing they have been “re-activated” for a specific reason.

With two unknown actors playing the lead roles, I was impressed with the chemistry they have, but this was not Abrams’s best pilot. I would have liked to have seen a little more action and a little less dialogue. The actress who plays Samantha’s sister was completely annoying and an unnecessary addition the show. In the end, I would give Undercovers two and half out of four stars, but that’s only for the first episode. This doesn’t mean my opinion won’t change in the coming weeks. We shall see where the show goes from here. It stars Boris Kodjoe as Steven and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Samantha. What do you think of this show? Has J.J Abrams done it again? Will this be a win for him, or will this get the axe after five episodes? Send us an e-mail. All-New episodes of Undercovers air Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
