The fall season is now under way and for the NBC network it’s time to go big or go home. For Monday nights, they may have struck gold with The Event. It tells the story of Sean Walker played by Jason Ritter from CBS’s Joan of Arcadia and NBC’s Parenthood. He and his girlfriend Leila played by Sarah Roemer who was in Disturbia are on Caribbean cruise when one day she disappears without a trace. What Sean doesn’t know that he is about to discover the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.

Meanwhile, in Florida, newly elected President Martinez, played by Blair Underwood, is about to hold a press conference because he has discovered that the CIA has been holding a group of prisoners that his advisors did not tell him about at a base called Mt. Inostronka in Alaska. Martinez wants to shut it down and free those prisoners who are led by Sophia Maguire played by ER alum Laura Innes. In the midst of all of this, Leila’s sister is kidnapped by mercenaries and her mother is killed. They make her dad Michael Buchanon board a plane as a pilot and tell him to use it to assassinate the President. Now Sean is on the plane to try to prevent Michael from doing so. The pilot does show flashback to give us a clue as to how these characters find out about such information. In the last 5 minutes the plane is about to hit the President but it suddenly disappears and no one knows how or why. But Sophie tells Martinez, “I haven’t told you everything”.

Now, I for one loved this pilot from beginning to end. It was gripping; it has a great story, and very good characters. Everyone in the cast has done a great job thus far. To me it’s a combination of 24, LOST, and The 4400 rolled into one great thrill-ride. However, I am not a big fan of flashbacks but I was able to follow along the whole time. I just hope they don’t do that too much because otherwise it will be just be more confusing, and the last thing I want is for a show to be more complicated than LOST was. I give The Event 4 out of 4 stars and I am with this till the end. But, what did you think of The Event? Is it the next LOST, or will this end before it even starts? Send us an e-mail! Catch all-new episodes of The Event Monday’s at 9/8c on NBC.
