Now that 24 is gone, FOX needed another big hit for Mondays, and they found one with Lone Star. Newcomer James Wolk stars as Bob Allen, who is a con-man living in Texas with two different lives. On one side, he lives in Midland, Texas with his girlfriend Lindsey. While on the other, he is married to Cat Thatcher and living in Houston while working for his father-in-law who is an oil tycoon.
Bob wants to quit working for his father and take the job at the oil company for real and not just call it another con. He loves both women so much that he wants to have a real life with them both. So he decides to marry Lindsey at the end of the pilot and start a new life with her while he is still married to Cat in his other life. Talk about having your work cut out for you.
I have never seen a more emotional and heartbreaking pilot like this since NBC’s Friday Night Lights. Adrianne Palicki who played Tyra on Friday Night Lights stars as Cat and Jon Voight plays Clint Thatcher, Bob’s father-in-law. That to me is an all-star cast right there. James Wolk is so believable in this role, he does a great job. So FOX, you got a great show here and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I give Lone Star four out of four stars and I highly recommend that you watch this one. It’s got a great cast, great writing, and above all a good premise. What do you think of Lone Star? Does it fill the void that 24 left behind? Is this the right show for the network? Send us an e-mail at ryan@therpmshow.com. And don’t miss all-new episodes of Lone Star Mondays at 9/8c on FOX.
