In nine times out of ten, a new CBS show becomes a hit, and they got it with Blue Bloods. It’s about a family of cops and lawyers who have always been loyal to their jobs and families. It stars Tom Selleck as New York police commissioner Frank Reagan, Donnie Wahlberg as Det. Danny Reagan, Bridget Moynahan as Erin a prosecutor and finally, Will Estes as Jamie the youngest of the family, who just graduated from the police academy. It comes from the producers of HBO’s The Sopranos, only this time they are focusing on the good guys.

The network is trying to bring back original programming to Friday nights and they came out swinging. In the pilot, we learn that one of Frank’s sons died a few years ago while on duty and how difficult it has been for them ever since. At the end, two federal agents want to recruit Jamie to find out more about a secret society of cops known as the Blue Templar. They have been accused of stealing evidence, using dirty tactics, and cleaning up after their own to get the job done, but they are not sure how high it goes.

I really like this show. It’s got the right balance of solving cases while dealing with all the family drama. It reminds me of The Good Wife which became a big hit just last year. So with that in mind, I give Blue Bloods three and a half out of four stars. The casting on this show is brilliant, and it gives us a new take on the NYPD. What do you think of Blue Bloods? Did they assemble the right cast for this one? Is New York City the right setting for the show? Send us an e-mail. Don’t miss all-new episodes of Blue Bloods Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
