When it comes to ABC during the fall season, there’s bound to be some hits and misses with new pilots. I am not sure what to call this one: It’s called The Whole Truth, starring Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney as Jimmy Brogan and Kathryn Peale. Morrow is a defense attorney while Tierney is a prosecutor. This new legal drama tells the story of how they prepare their case for court, and then at the end you go beyond the verdict and find out what really happened.
Now, this comes from executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer and we all know the relationship between Bruckheimer and ABC has not been a good one. For example, last year he brought The Forgotten to the network and despite the fan support and the half-decent ratings, they took it off after one season. But, with The Forgotten, it was scheduled to air on Tuesdays which was not the smartest move on ABC’s part, and that was a great show. Despite the fact that you have Morrow, who was on CBS’s Numbers for six years, and longtime veteran Tierney of ER fame doesn’t mean your show will be successful.
Judging from the pilot, there were some things I could have gone without. For instance, having flashbacks to previous scenes with Brogan and Peale was unneeded. Both lawyers also exhibited too much energy. They should take that down a few notches. We have seen the elements this show puts forth before in a different legal drama called Justice on FOX. In that show, you also saw what really happened at the end of each episode.
In the end I would give the pilot two out of four stars so I hope the next few episodes get better. If they don’t, this show will be gone before you know it. Tell us what you think of The Whole Truth. Will this show last one season? Do we really need a legal drama like this on television? Send us an e-mail and let your voice be heard. Don’t miss all-new episodes of The Whole Truth Wednesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
