Once again the hit CBS show NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service), has begun another season on the network. And once again they continue the tradition of taking care of cliffhangers they leave us on at the end of every season. I credit the beginning of that tradition to the finale of Season 2, when Agent Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander) was shot and killed by Ari Haswari, who we later found to be partially related to new agent Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). The final shot in the episode was Kate getting shot in the head and then the episode cut to black and the credits begin rolling. This is were the tradition of ending the following seasons on cliffhangers.
At the end of last season, Gibbs was being faced with an incident from his past. Abby was teaching a class in Mexico on forensics in cold cases. The cold case she is handled is the case of the death of a man named Pedro Hernandez who is a Mexican drug cartel business man. He murdered Gibbs wife and daughter and then Gibbs hunted him down and shot him. The finale brought Gibbs face to face with Hernandez’s now grown children, daughter Paloma Reynosa and son Alejandro Rivera. They are bent of revenge for their father and will do anything even if it means killing everybody Gibbs is associated with. The episode ended on Paloma walking into Gibbs father’s store in Stillwater and here by gave the season cliffhanger.
As I am writing this sentence the premiere ended under three hours ago and believe me that this is one that I have been waiting for these past three long months. Three months and I have been wondering how it would play out. And quite actually I was blown away with how everything was resolved. The only thing that I was not quite okay with was the resolution between Gibbs and the lawyer Margaret Hart. We are given a small hint that she has left the country but we do not know under what circumstances. But other than that small little piece, the premiere was everything that I was hoping for and wanting.
Now a quick word on the little piece between Vance and Eli David’s text message, I must say that this could be another storyarc for the season. But that is not all that I am wishing for in this new season. I would like to see more of Jackson Gibbs and more of Anthony DiNozzo Sr. if at all possible. They did say at some point that there could be more appearances made by Senior DiNozzo, so we will have to wait and see. But I will make a prediction here, they will definately find some other way to end season 8 on a cliffhanger. Whether it is someone’s past history is brought up and turns out to be bad or it could be that things will blossom between Tony and Ziva. Who knows. All I can say is that it’s going to be another great year.
